Spain – Bt63 in rice sticks from China
On 22 July 2009, the Spanish authorities again notified the EU member states that they had found Bt63 rice, this time in rice noodles imported from China. This was a border rejection and the rice was not permitted to enter the European Union. (RASSF number 2009.BIQ)
On 15 September 2009 the Spanish authorities notified that an attempt to import rice noodles contaminated with Bt63 into the European Union with a fraudulent health certificate. (RASSF number 2009.BQK)

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) is used by the EU Member States, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland. It was put in place to provide food and feed control authorities with an effective tool to exchange information about measures taken responding to serious risks detected in relation to food or feed.
