Germany – Bt63 rice from China identified at EU border.
On both the 5 and 6 January 2009, the German authorities notified other EU member states that GM rice Bt63 had been found in rice noodle products imported from China. The products were identified at the border to the EU and were either re-dispatched or destroyed.

Sampling carried out on 12 January revealed Bt63 rice present in macaroni imported from China. The German authorities notified the EUs RASFF system on 18 February. RASSF number 2009.0204
Sampling on 21 April sampling revealed Bt63 rice in rice noodles imported from China via the Netherlands. The German authorities made the notification to the EU’s RASSF system on 27 May.

On 5 June 2009, the German competent authorities notified other EU member states that it had identified 2 types of unauthorised Bt rice in noodles from China, imported into the Germany via the Netherlands. RASSF number 2009.0717
